OUR MANDATE

“Existere is a Toronto-based literary arts journal that publishes purposeful, subversive, and innovative new work with an interest in amplifying diverse stories and voices."

Existere, as of 2023, will be publishing issues annually.

Eligibility Guidelines:

  • Submission creator must live in Canada
  • Submission creator needs to be 18 years of age or older

Please submit your poetry, fiction, non-fiction, or artwork to our general email: existere.lit@gmail.com

Only previously unpublished work will be considered. Simultaneous submissions are welcome. Please submit 5 pieces or less per person.

Please ensure that literary submissions are fewer than 3500 words. Art submissions must be 300 dpi.

We are unable to accept any work that has been published in another literary journal, on a blog, website (unless password protected), or social media platform.

Due to the overwhelming volume of submissions, we will only contact authors whose work we have accepted, at which point we will need to confirm that the work has not been published elsewhere. Unfortunately, we cannot respond to emails inquiring about the status of submissions.

Copyright remains with the contributor, who is free to resell their work six months after publication (noting Existere as the first publisher) unless granted an earlier release by the journal. Existere retains the right to reprint, to publish in electronic editions, and to include this work in any anthology without further compensation.

Any depictions of potentially triggering content, visual, written or otherwise, are accepted as long as they are purposeful. However, relevant content disclaimers must be included in initial submission email.

Existere pays authors $100 per accepted submission, along with a complimentary copy of the Existere issue your work will be featured in.

Please reference the linked Submission Template to use as a cover page for each of your pieces. Additionally, please ensure that if you are submitting multiple pieces for consideration that they are being sent to the general email as individual attachments.
